Many of you might have heard about CMMC, some might not. It is always a dilemma when something new comes up and you are on the fence deciding to jump over the fence or not. CMMC is now in the final phase of the rule making and Title 48 CFR might just finally happen before the end of this and CMMC 2.0 could finally become a law ready for adoption by Q1 2025.
Should I be concerned about it? Maybe and certainly if you are already providing products and/or services to the DoD or you in the Defense supply chain. Simply put, if you are receiving money from the government specifically from the DoD agencies for your services after the rule making, then you should be worried if you are not compliant with CMMC 2.0.
CMMC 2.0 does not make a difference between a large enterprise and micro small business or between a prime or a subcontractor down the food chain. Every entity is required to be compliant and failure to do so can lead you to be charged under the False Claims Act! I am not scaring you, but just presenting the facts.
CMMC 2.0 is something every company should embrace irrespective of working for the government or just servicing the commercial sector. This is one framework that could really reduce an organization’s propensity to be compromised by the cyber threat actors.
